Serenitrove
Serenitrove - A little digging game

Just you, your little claws (or pickaxes), and the urge to see what's hiding underground. Serenitrove is a casual game where you dig for ores, treasures, and other weird stuffs.
There's no time limit, no enemies. Just a laid-back loop of dig, discover, and repeat.
Have fun!
Note: Be sure to export and save your game data regularly! Serenitrove has autosave, but data will be lost if you clear your browser cache.
Controls & Core Mechanics
Controls
-
Movement: Use ASD or Arrow Keys to move around.
Use the mouse to interact with structures and UI elements.
Consumable item hotkeys are 1, 2, 3, & 4 for each slot.
Use the B key to return to the surface.
Certain pop-up messages can be dismissed with the Spacebar.
Partial mobile support is available. Tap to move and dig.
Digging
-
Stamina-Based: Digging consumes stamina.
-
Soil Toughness: Tougher soil types use more stamina per dig.
-
Power: Every point of Power reduces stamina cost by 1 (down to a minimum of 1).
-
Pickaxes: Equip pickaxes to increase Power and reduce stamina usage further.
Durability System
-
Pickaxes:
-
Lose durability only when actively helping (i.e. reducing stamina cost).
-
If soil is already at minimum stamina cost without a pickaxe, durability is not affected.
-
-
Footwear:
-
Durability decreases gradually as you dig.
-
Light Mechanics
-
It gets darker the deeper you dig.
-
Torches or other light sources will help when visibility becomes an issue.
A Tiny Game, a Big Thanks
Thank you so much for playing! Your support, feedback, bug reports, and all the kind words mean the world to me and I'm genuinely grateful for every one of you.
This little community we've built together means just as much to me as the game itself. I truly hope Serenitrove continues to bring a bit of peace, joy, and curiosity into your lives, because you've all brought so much of that into mine.
Serenitrove will always be free to play. If you'd like to support something meaningful, consider adopting or even name a sea turtle through the Oceanic Society: https://www.oceanicsociety.org/adopt/adopt-a-sea-turtle/ (or contribute to any other wildlife-focused organization you care about). If you do, feel free to let me know, it would truly make my day!

can i download it in order to play offline?
Yes, you can download the itch.io app and install Serenitrove through it. Once you have logged into your itch.io account at least once on the app, you can open the app offline and play Serenitrove without an internet connection.
i played just a half of hour, but really enjoy it. I definetly will return to this game later.
this game is so fun need help getting the 35 restore cell turtle tho HELPPPP
Thanks so much! The easiest way to get 35 restore cells in a run is to comfortably reach the final zone first. The deeper you go, the more restore cells you can collect. Try increasing your light levels so you can spot restore cells further down or stock up on Mageflare Runes. If you are not using Mageflare Runes, Caelo is the easiest turtle thanks to the light level bonus.
Nice, relaxing game
Ótimo jogo, simples e viciante.
How to dig up a Quartz in the Magma zone? I have trid a lot but can't find any.
Hint: There are no Quartz spawns in the Magma zone.
do you have to get quarts in sand all the way down there???
yep!! at least, that worked for me^^
How to unlock the Heavy Drip achievement? I have kept with Iron Helm on from surface to water several times.
Did you have Headgear Visual Effects enabled? To unlock Heavy Drip, you need to wear the Iron Helm with Headgear Visual Effects enabled and keep it on from the surface all the way to the bottom without removing it.
got that, thank you
Really "digging" the game. You definitely mastered the art of "one more run" and I just spent three hours sitting here playing this. Thanks for the fun game!
I am really glad you are enjoying it, and hearing that you had so much fun with the game genuinely makes my day. Thanks for playing and for the kind words!
hey how do i get another turtle? been playing for awhile cant get past the blue soil
Every turtle has different unlock criteria. Some are random drops from chests, some unlock after you've dug a certain number of blocks, and others appear once you've collected a lot of a specific ore. If you're not sure whether you've unlocked any new turtles, try clicking on your turtle on the surface. If a new one is available, you'll be able to swap to it from there. Hope this helps!
thx so much turns out i did unlock the grandpa turtle just didnt know how 2 get him
wondering how the exact durability calculation of the boots work
Footwear durability has a 10% chance to decrease by 1 on every dig. So on average about -1 for every 10 digs.
are you going to add pebble to the turtle showcase in the game description?
I don't think so. It would just keep getting longer as more turtles are added, and it would also end up being pretty spoilery.
aww ok :(
He just feels kinda left out
How does one make such amazing game ? I love this so much you dont even understand a fraction of my happiness playing this
Aww thank you so much for the kind words. Knowing that Serenitrove brings you happiness is more than I could ever ask for, and it truly makes my day. I hope you have an amazing day too!
! ATTENTION EVERYONE !
I am putting together a makeshift wiki for serenitrove. If anyone can send little known information about the game or anything else, that would be FANTASTIC!
Things I need:
Slot machine results, LOTS of slot machine results!
This is a community effort, so we need to work together and get as much game information as we can! I have a post on my profile for submitting information!
I will make updates to this comment and/or this comment thread when I can!
Thanks so much for the help! I can provide the details on slot machine probabilities. Here you go:
3x Grapes: 9.39% (1 in 10.65 spins)
3x Cherries: 1.41% (1 in 71 spins)
3x Dollar Sign: 0.60% (1 in 166 spins)
3x "7" (Jackpot): 0.17% (1 in 592 spins)
And here is the jackpot pity system calculation (increased chance of getting a "7" after X spins of not hitting the jackpot:
I got a jackpot on my like second try
i have gotten it once since and i already have the turtle.... i might have a slight problem
a cow spawns after 100 blocks of digging
max power is currently 13 i think (caelo+torch+verdant radiance+power vi+20 relic boost +enlightenment vi+lumen pickaxe)
max light level is 390 (same setup but diamond instead of lumen)
scoot maybe you could give us the drop rates of the different materials
obsidian takes 30 stamina, offset by your power amount
i think wood drops are based on cells dug
gruff love is a music disc obtained by using scoot while having gramps unlocked, it is in a chest
max depth is 433
ladders can't be placed at higher depths than any other ladders placed that run, and cannot be placed at depth one
coal is burned at approximately 20 seconds per coal, and wood at 8 seconds (all assumptions)
ores smelt individually at different speeds, so using coal vs wood doesn't speed it up.
slot machine is unlocked at 100 quartz saved up
furnace is unlocked when you reach mud
the tree is unlocked by a random drop of an acorn found in the ground
when overhealing, fern only receives half of what she would have normally received, but she gets a +50% healing from restore cells
gold pick has the lowest durability at 75, and diamond has the highest at 1200
most of all the recourses can be exchanged for a certain amount of quartz once you have 100 of them (pretty sure this only applies to raw materials, not smelted)
titanium is an expetion to the note above, as it is usually used the most
there are certain gems that can only spawn naturally (not counting chests) in certain zones ex. rubies only spawn in ice and granite (scoot could you tell us the other zone limitations of ores)
gramps increases the spawn rate of ores/gems by 30%
you can enter hard mode when you first start the game by skipping building the tanning rack
you can exit hardmode by clicking a cow ten times (but you can't go back)
yeah thats about all i know (i scoured around the comments section for most of these ideas, so some could be outdated scoot please correct me if im wrong about anything.)
Thanks so much for putting all this information together and collecting most of the FAQ from the comments section! Here are a few extra details you can add, along with some updated info. These are extremely spoilery, so new players should avoid reading further:
Resource spawns:
Quartz: Soil, Sand, Hard Soil, Mud, Stone, Ice
Copper: Soil, Hard Soil, Mud, Stone
Iron: Mud, Stone
Gold: Stone, Granite
Titanium: Granite, Magma
Coal: Hard Soil, Stone, Granite, Magma
Amethyst: Sand, Ice
Emerald: Stone
Ruby: Ice, Granite
Sapphire: Ice, Magma
Diamond: Granite, Magma
Some additional info:
Cow spawns after 100 digs downward
Wood spawns after 120 digs in any direction
It's technically possible to reach higher than 13 Power using Fern + Lumen Pickaxe, but it would require extremely good rng with restore cells, so it's very unlikely
Encased Relics start to spawn after Lorestone has been unlocked and only spawns after 100 depth with increased spawn rates at 200 and 350 depth respectively
Scoot's Theme is unlocked when you have collected the Scoot's Groove Disc relic
totally forgot about fern’s light thing, but you’d need so much luck that it might as well be impossible
When are the tanning rack, bits & bobs, dojo, occult oddities, lorestone, and anvil unlocked?
Edit: what are the spawn rates of different materials?
Dojo - Soil
Tanning rack - Sand
Bits & Bobs - Hard Soil (with Backpack/Wooden Backpack unlocked)
Anvil & Furnace - Mud
Occult Oddities - Stone
Lorestone - Ice
I don't think we should include resource spawn rates, as those are being updated frequently.
Oh ok thanks
started a save on my phone
Gramophone is a first (I think) chest you collect
Js to clarify, these unlocks are after you pass those zones right?
Can there please be a wiki of sorts?
A wiki would definitely be helpful, but I can't take on creating and maintaining one while I'm focused on developing Serenitrove. One of the players (Stick3141) mentioned they're putting together a google doc for Serenitrove, which might serve as a good reference in the meantime. As for now, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the game :)
I would like to point out that restore cells are nigh impossible to see in the light grey rock layer. This is a significant deficit to my runs.
It is the stone layer after mud right? The restore cells can blend in because of the slight bluish tint on the stone tiles. I'll take a look and see if I can adjust that tint to improve visibility. If that doesn't work, I can add a clearer border for restore cells when Accessibility Color Blind mode is on. Thanks for the feedback!
Hey just wanted to say I really love your game. I'm so glad I found this from reddit and it's as cozy as it can get. I've been playing it on and off during office breaks and it's really fun! Keep it up!
Hey, thanks for playing and for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
wow really like the new achievement (kinda easy though)
I Really love the pebble specific achievements. maybe you could add more different character specific achievements.
ideas:
Scoot: Eternal legacy: reach water with gramps, then reach the water with scoot the next run (idk this feels a little too restore cell rng?)
gramps: collect a total number of x ores/gems
fern: overheal by 75 stamina (i actually did this before)
griddle: reach water using sanguine signet? (feels to similar to fashion statement idk)
mistral: reach water without using a drill or reach water while mining more than 866 cells (takes advantage of the sideways mining advantage of mistral)
caelo: reach 13 power (pretty sure this is the max power rn correct me if im wrong)
reeler: win the mini slot x times in a run
nix: gather a total of x shield stacks
and you already have pebble
oh i misread the achievement nvmd thats really hard :P
Edit: maybe you should reword it as "gain 100 stacks of fortify" it sounds like reach 100 stamina right now.
with that i guess maybe the mistral achievement cell # should be increased
welp got the achievement by getting enough stamina and then mining 6 whole rows of magma :P
thats 102 blocks by itself, or around 11 stacks of fortify
You're right, that might be less confusing. But then again, they might still be confused as technically there are 2 different "stacks" or Fortify. Maybe instead of "+100 Max Stamina" we could use "Gain 100 extra Max Stamina as Pebble" or something along the lines.
Those are some really great ideas! I personally love the Fern and Mistral's achievement ideas. Will consider adding them in the future updates, although I try not to have a specific achievement for each turtle as that feels too rigid, and currently Pebble alone already has 2. Thanks for the suggestions!
Hi!! Just wanted to let you know I love this little game. I've been playing it for a couple weeks now and it's very fun and cute. I especially love that I can dig up little artifacts. I made an itch.io account just so I could leave a comment. Keep up the good work (:
Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm really glad you're having fun with the game and it truly makes my day that you even made an itchio account just to leave a comment. Thank you again for the support and I hope you have a great day!
OH, and Scoot, is there any way I can help on this project other than donating? Like ideas, concepts, finding bugs, comment patrol (as in answering questions), or anything really! Just let me know! I'm happy to help! I'm currently making a google doc that will serve as a sort of a wiki.
Sure! Feel free to share any ideas, suggestions, or bug reports anytime. Helping answer questions is also a huge help since I might miss some questions here and there. As for the google doc, I really appreciate it. A simple guide or FAQ would be super helpful since a lot of players have the same questions. Thanks so much!
Sorry I keep asking so many questions, but how do I get more hats?
EDIT: Also, if I click delete save, can I still enter an exported save?
No worries at all!
You can unlock more hats by reaching the bottom with the different turtles. Each one earns a special hat as a little trophy for completing a run with them :)
As for saves, yes you can still load an exported save even after deleting your current one. If you're just trying to overwrite your existing save with a previously exported one, you can import it directly and it will replace your current data. Just be sure to double check before overwriting or deleting anything. Since everything is stored locally, once deleted/overwritten, they are gone for good.
collection of stuff/glitches i did:
why did pebble's stamina overcap
i got sand to the water :)
i ran out of stamina at one depth (not a glitch guess how i did it)
I haven't seen that glitch before, but my guess is that the Titanium Pickaxe might be triggering its free dig at the same time Pebble collects a restore cell and gains +1 max stamina. I'll need to test it myself to figure out what's going on. Thanks for reporting!
Edit: Should be fixed now.
You unequip and re-equip your pickaxe over and over again.
got all the headwear... time to grind for diamond pick. oof
officially hit 24 hours of gameplay :P
forget gambling problems, do you think i have a cell digging addiction?
That's quite a lot of cells dug. I can already tell it'll be even more with the addition of Pebble :)
72800 now :)
got fashion statement yippee
as a UI thing, I realized that violetheart pendant doesn't list the type, whereas every other occult oddity item does
also as a suggestion, maybe you could add more consumable to the shop? mageflare rune feels like too much of a one off in the shop
Thanks for the report! I'll take a look at the Violetheart Pendant's item description to make sure its type is listed correctly.
As for adding new consumables to the shop, I don't have plans for that right now. Introducing more consumables would require a major update to the current system, including things like a consumable inventory and slot selection. It might be something that I will add in the future though.
another weird thing happened to me with the gramophone. only serenitrove, bonus round boogie, scoot's theme, and gruff love will play. If i click on any other songs, the gramophone just says gramophone off, and doesn't play the song. :(
i'm using chrome
reloaded the game and it was fixed.
don't know what happened
Sometimes this happens because of a slow connection, which can make the bgm take a while to load or stop it from loading entirely. As for the repeating song issue you mentioned earlier, I still haven't been able to reproduce it on my end. It seems likely that it has something to do with how fast the bgms load on different connections.
Hey Scoot! I just want to know that I love Pebble! I haven't unlocked him(?) yet, but just the name is perfect! If I get a turtle, I will name it Scoot, because I will never forget the developer who made this amazing game. Also, I really wish I could donate, but I have restrictions on my computer that prevent me from doing so. Here's where I am in game:
Crafted Boots: Leather, Snow
Crafted Tools: Copper Pickaxe, Iron Pickaxe, Iron Drill
Turtles: Scoot, Grampshell, Griddle, Mistral
Stamina: VI (max)
Power: IV
Regeneration: V
Max Depth: 338 (Zone: Magma)
Total Playtime: 3 hours, 26 minutes, 38 seconds
Cells Dug: 23353
Departed Cows: 66
Returned to Surface: 82 times
Also, what did you use to make the music?
Hey, thanks so much! I'm really glad you love Pebbles. It's been a while since I've added a new turtle because I've been focused on bug fixes, polishing, and other improvements. And no worries at all about donating. My biggest hope is that Serenitrove inspires players to care about animals and help them however they can. If the game brings a smile to someone's face, that's more than enough for me. Also, great progress so far! I hope there's plenty of content to keep you entertained for a long time, and even if you 100% the game one day, feel free to drop by and chat anytime!
you haven't gambled yet?
I have not. I don't know how to get the machine.
The slot machine is unlocked when you carry more than 100 Quartz.
Thank you!
I got Pebble! The unlock condition was fun but I agree with the comment saying he's a bit underpowered, especially when gunning for the achievement (which I understand is a challenge but it seems a bit too dependent on restore cell luck). The -2 stamina on the magma floor was tough even when I used ladders and mageflare runes to get most restore cells. Maybe Pebble can have an extra drink from the flask or have an in-built ability similar to Sanguine Signet? The idea of digging around on purpose as not to overheal is fun but so far it seems quite luck dependent.
Thanks for frequently updating this game! Was exciting to play with a new turtle :) Also appreciate the balancing for Griddle and Fern.
Thanks for the feedback! Reaching water with Pebble usually isn't too difficult, but I agree that achievement runs were a bit too punishing and relied too much on restore cell luck. I've lowered the required stacks from 10 to 9, and after doing a few test runs, I believe the achievement should now be doable even with bad restore cell rng, but still pretty challenging (lots of Mageflare Runes needed).
i need help getting pebble to water. :(
what accessories and tool do you use
I used Sanguine Signet up till magma level and then Winterheart, and Titanium tools. Use a torch and spam runes. I'm also very end game with everything unlocked and can afford all the runes and ladders I want.
i ended up using the same thing a bit before you posted this, and got really lucky with restore cells in magma, allowing me to get fashion statement without using runes :)
thanks though
two seperate runs btw
one i got to water with the accessories you said
other i got fashion statement
just a tip i think pebble is a bit too under powered. maybe adjust his fortify buff to 6-8 bc he just loses out on an absurd amount of stamina without boots and regen
Thanks for the feedback! I'm still gathering player impressions and testing things on my end. The way I usually play him is by trying to maximize the number of digs I can get in before picking up a restore cell, so I don't waste the extra heals without growing his stamina stacks. By the end of some of my Pebble runs his max stamina can reach 170+.
I'll keep an eye on how players are feeling overall. If it still seems too tough for most people, I might lower it to 9 stacks for 1 stamina instead of 10.
Edit: I have lowered the stacks required for Pebble from 10 to 9 :)
I got pebbleeeeeee
found a glitch where if you switch songs fast enough the first one doesn't stop playing
works if you just spam a song too
and no, turning off the gramaphone only turns off the current song, not the other glitched ones
i did this for 10 or so songs and my ears died :P
Thanks for reporting this! I'll try to reproduce the issue on my end and work on a fix.
im on web chrome
wow the first time i reached surface water i got a dry run!
i used griddle with omnishard :)
feel like i got this jackpot absurdly early, i only ever got small prize before. maybe im dumb and this is normal
No, I think you're on the luckier side. Hitting a jackpot after spending only 429 quartz is definitely above average luck :)
yayyyyy
i just got the medium prize and big prize around 250 quartz later
I. Need. Ruby.
It's way too hard to get it fr.
gamble, or mine in magma and ice they spawn there the most i believe but i got like 40 rubies from gambling so. pick or choose.
Rubies are found only in the Ice and Granite zones. You can also sometimes get them from treasure chests and as Twigster mentioned, through the slot machine.
beat all characters back 2 back W
it would be funny if scoots hat was a snap back lol
Can't draw a snapback with 5 pixels sadly.
NOOOOOOOO :(
hehehe gambling.
8055 quartz gambled, assuming 4 seconds/spin, that's 3 hours of playtime just spinning the slots. I think it's safe to say you have a gambling problem now :)
lol, maybe I'll find the secert roulette table. :) worked hard to get there lol
I adore this game, I've been playing it for days and it's so fun. I'm having a very tough time getting that last turtle as I haven't been able to find any quartz spawns! I think this is a really well balanced game and it's just tough enough to challenge you but not too much to discourage you from playing. Love it! Very cute too
Thanks so much for the kind words, I'm really glad you're enjoying it!
About the last turtle, without spoiling too much, Quartz don't spawn in the Magma zone at all.
Scoot, this game is amazing. Haven't beaten it but really want to. What's your favorite turtle you've made? Are there any scrapped turtles?
Hi, thanks for playing! Take your time with it. Serenitrove is meant to be a chill and relaxing journey, though you can totally hardcore it if you want to ;)
My favorite turtle is probably Caelo. The most difficult ones to implement code-wise were Fern and Reeler. And yes, there are a few turtles that were set aside, not really scrapped but put back on the drawing board for more balancing and planned for future updates.
I mean, turtle digs a hole, what's not to love?
Like seriously. I cannot stress how much I love this game.
Thanks so much for the detailed report! I managed to reproduce the issue on my end, so I will go ahead and remove your reports for now while I work on a fix. Really appreciate you taking the time to look into it and share your findings!
alright your welcome!
The bug should be fixed now, along with any clipping issues.
cool game !
